Snowcaps Rugby Club v West Vancouver Cricket Club - August 2005

A close match - Draw - the final verdict!

Seems like we ruffled a few Cricket Club members feathers. Snowcaps capitulated in the end not attempting the final run needed to win outright. Blame the management!!!!

The Captains Report

Snowcaps v West Vancouver Cricket Club Aug 3rd 2005 at Hugo Ray Park.

To the surprise of the West Van Cricket Club, we had a team show up on time ready to go!

The warm up match for the main event (Snowcaps of course) was BC v Manitoba (BC won)

West Van batted 1st and were immediately stunned when Snowy once again excelled at bowling - 2 wickets in the 1st over including shattering the wicket of their top batsman and a catch by Geoff. (this is very good). West Van however settled down and eventually got 96 runs (18 of which were wides - gifts from us for bad bowling)

Snowcaps then went in to bat and some notable cricket was played with rare appearances from the Silver Back (Grant) and Graham the Kiwi . Graham scored 23 runs mostly 4 at a time and had to retire having exceeded his quota. West Van were lucky to catch Grant who was set to hammer everything. Craig then did major damage (the evenings only 6) as did our two 'ringers', 'Mac' a local shipping exec and Leo from Argentina (Tennis coach for one of the professional players at the Hollyburn Tournament).

It got tense as the last over approached - we needed 4 runs to tie the game - there was some question whether or not the over was to be played (some thought we had already played our allotted 16 overs, but as official scorekeeper, I disabused the umpire of this foolish notion!). Jaques & Mike Anderson managed to obtain the required 4 runs despite some serious and aggressive play by West Van. Of note we also scored 96 runs of which only three were wides - this means we actually scored more runs .......

A traditional tie game, which in cricket terms, is a very gentlemanly result. The beer was good, the weather fine and some excellent BBQ chicken .

Our thanks to West Vancouver Cricket Club for what has become a traditional summer evening event enjoyed by all. Same again next year.

Special thanks to' Mac' McDonald and Leo from Argentina (did I tell you he has played World Cup cricket for Argentina ? - If we go to Argentina next year, Leo will set us up with his Club in Buenos Aires (a multisport club).

Harry has a number of photos of this grand event which I am sure will appear on the website
